RogueBattalion News
"Wazzap"
  • October 9, 2002: Dropzone
    • It has been decided that the next Dropzone event will be March 2003, and the armies will be 1500 points. More details are forthcoming

This will be an official Rogue Trader Tournament.

  • September 23, 2002: Saint John Calling...
    • December 7th is a date to mark down on your calendar. The gaming krew in NB are hosting a Rogue Trader Tournament, and it is likely to be an excellent event.

A few of us went up there last year, won two trophies and had a great time! If you are interested, get in touch with us; we will be organizing rides and billets for any Haligonians that want to help form our contingent.

Also note: our 'Clash of the Titans' VDR night has been postponed until after Capecon.

  • September 17, 2002: Clash of the Titans
    • Our Gothic Night was a big success, as lots of curious newbies and old vets turned out to battle over the Emperor's Vast Empty Void of Space. Expect to see more BFG events in the future, as there are more players for this game than we anticipated!

This Friday however, it's the heavyweight title match of the millenium! 'Clash of the Titans' will match massive VDR war machines against each other in a fight to the finish. Brian Cripps' Timberwolf variant Scout Titan will take to the field in opposition to the incredible Tau Tiger Shark Super Heavy Drone Tank by David McLeod, but they will have to defeat the notorious reigning champion of the battlefield, the Ork Gargant known as 'Da Iron Grodd' by Dylan Edwards.

  • September 10, 2002: Dropzone 2?
    • The exact date of our next RTT is still not final, but look for an announcement sometime in the next month or so. We may be running a Firefight sometime sooner so email Dylan if you are interested or drop in on Friday Nights and ask some questions. The more we hear from people the better we will be able to make our events.

    • Also: with the re-release of GW's Battlefleet Gothic we are hosting a Gothic Demo night this Friday the 13th. We will have fleets of 1000 points available for folks to try out. Many of us at RogueBattalion have been long-time fans of BFG and we're very pleased to see it's not dead yet!

    • And even more Also: GW's Jervis is hard at work on the new edition of Epic 40K, which will be called "Epic Armageddon" and is due to be released in a year or so. Again, a lot of us old-timers have fond memories of Epic games, and so we've been very enthusiastic about a new edition. We've been messing around with the playtesting edition of the rules and we are all quite impressed. (In case you don't know, Epic is a larger scale game using the same game universe as Warhammer 40,000. The miniatures are smaller, and you get more of them. Here's a battle report of one of our games we had a year ago using the 2nd edition rules)

  • July 21, 2002: Capecon 2!
    • September 28th and 29th is time to head up to Cape Breton for some Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 action - It's time for Capecon!

    • Full details will be forthcoming, but the 40K tourney is for 1500 points. The guys up there host a wicked event, so don't miss it!

  • July 13, 2002: The Parkin-Pengelly Cup - The Legend Begins.
    • Our first FireFight tournament was a load o' fun. We had eight players who brought their 500-point armies to play for the Legendary Parkin-Pengelly Cup. The format of the tournament follows the standard RTT which marks players on Games, Sportsmanship, Painting and Army Selection. In addition to the Overall Champion, we handed out shiny medals with our RogueBattalion insignia on the front - suitable for proving your valor at any and all wargaming events.

    • To view the full results, click here. we hope to have another FireFight tournament in the near future.

  • June 9, 2002: Planning a 40K FireFight Tournament.
    • Next on our agenda is a possible FireFight tournament sometime this summer. This is a 500-point 40K format we have been developing for smaller, quicker games with more troops and less cheese. The tournament would be a structured so that players will have a set number of games with the top finalists advancing to an elimination round. (There can be only one!) For more information of the FireFight format, look in our events section. The sportsmanship aspect of scoring has yet to be worked out at this point. Stay tuned!

  • June 8, 2002: Battlecry 2002 was a good time.
    • We just finished Battlecry 2002 and it was a success, although the turnout was less than we had hoped. Thanks to our Officers and NCO's who carried out their duties with distinction; Lawrence, Dylan, Elinor, Hannah, Geoff and Mike D. We will be posting the final standings in this space in the near future. Anyone interested in seeing more Warhammer Fantasy events let us know. Due to the small turnout, we are lowering the bar a bit for any future WFB events. If you have an army, but it is not painted, or even if you do not have an army, but wish to play, get in touch with us. Several veteran players who have more than one army said they would bring them to an event for new players to try out if there are interested people. WFB is a great game, and it plays a lot differently from 40K. There are some really fun players in our community that are eager to share the Warhammerey goodness. If the interest is there, we will put on the event. Speak up!
