The Winner is:
Zug Zug's Zoggerz
Commanded by Dylan Edwards

Best Sportsman - Todd Kane - Salamanders
Best Army - Brian Kripps - Imperial Guard
Best Painted - Dan Schrieber - Tyranids
The first Firefight tournament was a lot of fun for all who participated. Six games of an hour each using brand-new missions. Most players were finished well within the allotted time, and the relaxed pace of the day made for some very enjoyable gaming. Medals were handed out to Todd, Brian and Dan, but the Cup went to Dylan, who brings it home for the Orks! Tim Pelzer (White Scars), Ben Pelzer (White Scars), Dieter Pelzer (Valhallans) and Dan Pyke (Black Templars) all made excellent showings as you can see by the scores posted below. Thanks to everyone for coming out, and BIG THANKS to Lawrence for being the Kommissar High Supreme-o for this event. See you all next time when the Cup is up for grabs again... if you 'aint too chicken!

Rogue Battalion presents
The Parkin-Pengelly Cup 1
The Legend Begins
A Warhammer 40K Tournament, 500 Points in‘Firefight Format’ ©.
SATURDAY, JULY 13TH Dal Tech Common Room Beside the Cemetary at Barrington St & Spring Garden Rd

History of the Pengelly-Parkin Cup

Colonel John Pengelly-Parkin, a Praetorian battalion commander of the Imperial Guard served during the 2nd Armageddon War. When his forces lifted the siege of Helsreach, he recovered the cup from the wreckage of the Imperial Temple, still clutched in the dead hands of a fallen Sister of Battle. He kept the Cup in hopes of returning it to the Ecclesiarchy that it might be kept as a relic.

During his subsequent advance towards Infernus, a force of enemy infiltrators penetrated the main line and attempted to capture the Colonel. This plan was foiled by the timely intervention of a small force of troops that noticed the signs of the approaching enemy and acted on veteran instinct. All of the Colonel’s officers that were not wounded in the liberation of Helsreach had been assigned to more forward positions, and so this small rearguard unit left their post and managed to save the Colonel from falling into the hands of the enemy.

In gratitude and recognition of Valorous Service Above And Beyond The Call Of Duty, the Cup was bestowed upon the Sergeant of the unit, who survived the war and returned with it to the city of Vogen on his home planet of Khai-Zhan.

The Cup was kept there for many years, until it was lost during the Khai-Zhan Uprising in 968.M41. It was taken as a trophy by the invading Night Lords, who carried it with them into battle and used in their foul rituals. A few years later, a force of Biel-Tann Eldar recovered the cup from the Chaos Renegades and restored it to its former beauty, but lost it to a horde of Tyrannids a week later. The Cup has since passed back and forth between many armies, who hold it as long as they have the power to resist their enemies. It is famous across the galaxy, and many armies seek it out for its power as a Symbol of Victory

The Parkin-Pengelly Cup is awarded to the Overall Champion of the tourney. The winner of the Cup shall be entrusted with its safekeeping until the next FireFight tournament, at which time they shall be required to bring the Cup to the event and participate in the Victory Ceremony during which the engraved plate bearing the name of the Champion and their army shall be affixed to the base of the cup. Once this is done, the Cup returns to the possession of RogueBattalion for the duration of the new tournament at which the champion may defend their title using the same army or a new one.

The Champion leaves the event with the Cup, to do with as they see fit until the next tournament.
Tournament Outline: The event will be run in similar fashion to a "Games Workshop Rogue Trader Tournament". Each player will play 6 games, and have 60 minutes (plus 10 minutes for initial ‘settling-in’) to complete each game. First round match-ups will be done by random draw, subsequent match-ups will be done based solely on each player’s ‘Generalship’ points, highest verse highest (next highest verse next highest, etc, etc on down to lowest verse lowest); however, no one will play the same opponent twice.

REQUIREMENTS:
  1. The cost to enter is $10 IN ADVANCE, else $15 on GAME DAY. Your Army lists MUST be submitted when you pay. Spaces are Limited. The easiest way to pay in advance is to come visit us at the Barrington St Superstore Community Room (upstairs) on any Friday night between 6pm to 10pm. You can also contact Rogue Battalion via email for a mailing address if your wish to send a cheque or money order.
  2. Your army MUST be fully painted to be used, this means at least 3 colours, as well the bases should be finished.
  3. When registering PLEASE inform the judges whether you painted 100% of your army yourself. If you have not painted all it yourself, you are not qualified to win in the "Best Painted" category. Please make sure you do this, cuz you don’t want to see the big ugly Troll we send out to retrieve the trophy, when the truth becomes known later.
  4. Players must bring their own Rule book, Codex, Chapter Approved articles, etc. If you intend to use any rule, you MUST bring it with you - to be able to show the rule you wish to use, so that your opponent can read it and understand it.
  5. Also bring your Dice, Rulers, Templates and everything else you need to play, etc. None will be provided.
  6. You will need TWO Concise, Readable, Complete and Final copies of your army list; one for you to play with, and one to give to the Judges when you pay for Army Selection judging (this copy will not be returned). The Army list MUST include your Name, your Army’s Name, the Army type (and sub-list type if applicable) and ALL point costs and ALL unit breakdowns.
  7. Golden Rules: Play for Fun and Don’t act in any way that brings disrepute to yourself, your fellow gamers, or the hobby.
  8. WYSIWYG - Models must conform to the "what you see is what you get" Rule. Scratch-builds and conversions must be consistent and clear to other players so that there is no misinterpretation of what they represent. If you have any question about what is clear or not clear, ASK the judges BEFORE game day.
"Firefight Format"© - Special Rules
"Firefight"© is the name given to the special rules & limitations used by Rogue Battalion to run small 500 point WH40k battles
  1. No more than FIVE HUNDRED (500) points may be spent on the army.
  2. Special Army Choices Limitations: No HQ choices. 2-6 Troop Choices. 0-1 Elite Choices. 0-1 Fast Attack Choices. 0-1 Heavy Support Choices. (for the Imperial Guard: 1-6 Troop Choices)
  3. Additional Unit Limitations: Nothing Toughness 6 or more allowed. Nothing Armour 13 or more allowed. No Ordnance allowed.
  4. No Special Characters allowed.
  5. No Vehicle Design Rules allowed.
  6. No Super Heavy Vehicles.
  7. Miscellaneous: Space Marines armies may not deploy from Drop Pods. The Last Chancers may not be taken as your entire army. Tyranid Bio Constructs, Seeding Swarms and Planetary Assimilations may not be used.
  8. Only official GW approved army Codices may be used: Codex list, most current Chapter Approved list, Imperial Armours books, etc. However, from the GW "Citadel Journal" the Adeptus Arbite Army list and the Genestealer Cult Army Lists may be used.

PLAY DISCIPLINE
  1. Talk over the terrain with your opponent, make sure you both understand its effects the same way.
  2. Explain any confusing or special aspects of your army, and any wargear that is strange or new to your opponent. You do not need to show your army list to your opponent prior to the game, but as you deploy you should clearly tell your opponent what the unit is, and what it is armed and armoured with. You should tell your opponent about any special rules that apply to units (Infiltrators, Deep Strike, etc).
  3. When Characters (in a unit or independent) are deployed you should clearly state what they are, you need not reveal what items they carry unless it is obvious.
  4. Your opponent has the right to ask any reasonable questions about your army at any time during the game.

AWARDS
The Tournament Cup Winner will be the player that scores the most points in total from the following categories (in the case of a tie, the winner will be the player who scored the most points in the "Sportsmanship" category). Max Score = 248.

Generalship - Points are awarded depending on the degree of victory. Gain 0 to 13 pts per Game.

Sportsmanship - This category is to encourage players to take part in the tournament in the right spirit. Obviously we deplore rude or un-sportsmanlike behaviour and we hope that the points that can be earned for being a sporting and friendly opponent will discourage players from even thinking of acting in this manner. At the end of each game you will fill in a questionnaire, there will be two questions, one on ‘Sportsmanship’ (Game Enjoyment) and a second on the ‘Composition’ of your opponent’s army. Gain 0 to 20 pts per Game

Army Appearance – Points for Painting and for Conversions, the area of most effort I’d say. Gain 0 to 20 pts.

Army Selection - "Would you want to play against this army ?". Gain 0 to 10 pts, based solely on upon your army’s composition, fluff, detail, presentation, etc. Is it readable? Is it concise? Is it complete? Is it fun to read? Does it reflect the uniqueness of your army? Does it contain history & fluff? Does it help make your army come alive? Does it look pretty ? Do the judges like it? [Because of the strict & severe limitations of the Firefight Format, unit selection will not be judged in Army Selection - for this event only]

Knowledge - A small, open book quiz, so bring your 40k Rulebook to look up the answers! Gain 0 to 20 pts.

Special Penalties - LOSE 1-5 pts for each Error in your Final Army List (accidental or not).

Awards are Calculated in this Order:
  • Highest Points : Trophy Awarded:
  • Overall : Best Overall (The Cup)
  • Sportsmanship + Selection : Best Sportsman
  • Selection + Appearance : Best Army
  • Appearance : Best Painted
