NB roolz!
reported by Dylan - Dec. 12, 2001
The call to arms came from the distant land of New Brunswick as the Saint John Battle Group hosted a Rogue Trader Tournament, and RogueBattalion answered with a crack team of warriors. Well, on crack maybe. Anyways Dylan, Dave and Todd went down and represented for Halifax and took home some sweet prizes. A gallery will be forthcoming shortly as the pictures come in. Todd won Best Sportsman Award and Dave took Best Painted. Dylan just frightened all the children and made them all cry. We all had a wicked time. More details will be made available.
Todd Clements came for a visit
reported by Dylan - Nov. 19, 2001
Well one of our buddies from the rock came down for a visit this Saturday, loaded with goodies; Name plates for the Capecon 2001 Rogue Trader Tournament trophies, and CD's of freshly burned photos! He had a couple of games at Odyssey 2000 with the lads. I had a look at his Tau army - very nice. I took the photos and posted them in a special gallery. Check it out!
Yahoo is feeling better...
reported by Dylan - Nov. 5, 2001
Ok, so it's back now. We don't know why. We don't know why it was gone. Some questions we do not ask, as the answers would only confuse and enrage us.
Yahoo Groups is GOOSHED!
reported by Dylan - Nov. 4, 2001
For some reason Yahoo is fried. Could be a new Chinese virus. Could be Afghan hackers. Could be that someone tripped over an ethernet cable somewhere. Nothing is known at this point, except that Geoff can't access his Willow group either. One thing is for sure; Yahoo is blowing some serious chunks. We will stay online as long as possible...
Blood Bowl Season starting soon!
reported by Dylan - Nov. 3, 2001
RogueBattalion is starting a Blood Bowl League, with Dave Wood taking the helm as Commissioner. A full list of teams and their coaches will be posted once the regular season starts. Last night a few of the teams hit the astro-granite in some pre-season exhibition games. We had Jesse with his fearsome Lizardmen team, Elinor fielding a mighty Norse team, Eric and a stylin' Human team, Dylan with a grim Dwarf team, while Dave offered his guidance to all, quietly assembling his Skaven team. There was some talk of Lawrence putting together a Halfling team, but nothing for certain at this point.
We will keep you updated with new developments as they happen.
All the News that Fits in Dylan's Head
reported by Dylan - Oct 8, 2001
Waaugh!
Well Jesse pointed out that the news section was sucking some seriously sucking suck so here I am, posting some stuff that will hopefully suck less, in no particular order.
- Our Dave no longer works at Odyssey. He found that the demands of his scholastic endeavours overwhelmed his commitments to his profession. This delusion will pass at some point, no doubt. In the meantime, we wish him luck with his academia. And patrons of Odd2K need not fear. There is a new Dave there who is just as knowledgable and friendly, but twice as handsome.
- I won the Carnage Tourney. As the man said, there could be only one, and I was him. New Dave's first 40K event was the Carnage tourney which was won by 'Aff-Grodd Gutz'o-Moondog'z ladz, Waa-Garg-Nazgof. They were huntin' for some shiny bitz, and they had to gib a whole lotza lotza gitz along the way. For my prize, I took home a box of Stikkbommaz, much to the bewilderment of all.
- We rocked the Rock. A delegation from Rogue Battalion went into the hinterlands of Cape Breton to participate in a Rogue Trader tournament. I was not present as worldly affairs kept me from the field, but it would seem that our boys totally veni vidi vici'd their asses and rode off into the sunset with all the trophies! The Haligonian Horde included Jesse, Lawrence, Dave, Todd and Mike D. (If I missed anyone, someone flame me)
- Eric's Big Chaos Blowout! Eric is selling his chaos stuff in an online auction so ask him for the list and make a bid. He's got great deals at prices you won't believe!
That's all I can think of for now. I'm going to bed, Foo.
Friday the 13th Massacre!
reported by Dylan - April 19, 2001
Well the day came and went and we're all still here.
The WFB Beginner's Tournament was a success, and more of our number were indoctrinated into the exciting world of Warhammer Fantasy Battles. We had a large turnout with a wide variety of armies: Undead, Lizardmen, Skaven, Wood Elves, Dark Elves, Beastmen and Empire.
Dave reports: "The Steepest Learning Curve Award goes to Todd Kane for his enlightened use of Beastmen as carpets to speed the movement of witch
elves across the battlefield...
Todd will receive a limited edition Poster of the Warhammer World for
hi shumility and his delaration that he should "quit his job to play
warhammer". Well done. We all look forward to playing you some time."
At the end of the day, all that counts is that a whole bunch of people got together and had a big scrap resulting in heinous loss-of-life and many needless maimings. A good time was had by all! (and Cthulhu was none the wiser)
RogueBattalion Friday the 13th WFB Beginner's Tourney!
reported by Dylan - April 11, 2001
It looks like it just might happen - this Friday the 13th we may see all of the RogueBattalion members assembled in one building, gathered for a massive explosion of violence and bloodshed the likes of which has not been seen since... well, Saturday!
Dave has invited the demented wretches of the RogueBattalion mailing list to have a beginner's tourney in his home. How his roommates feel about it remains to be seen.
What will happen? Will the CIA try to wipe us out? Will Cthulhu devour our souls? Will we eat any potatoes? Will Dave's house fold itself up and disappear into the Warp? Who can say...
Odd2K Painting Contest in June
reported by Dylan - April 9, 2001
Odyssey 2000 is hosting an official Games Workshop painting contest to be held in June. Sheldon sez the format will mirror that of the Golden Demon Awards, with all the same catagories. There is no entrance fee, and miniatures entered are to be from the current Citadel line (no Squats! grr... - ed.)
It should be a lot of fun, a great chance to get out there and strut your painting stuff, and you will also meet some new people. Hopefully the gaming community will make a good show of the great talent that we have in this region; you never know, we might see something from this contest make it into White Dwarf!
What are you doing? Stop reading this! Shut off the computer and get painting!
Odd2K Warhammer Fantasy Tournament a Success!
reported by Dave - April 9, 2001
Thanks to everyone who came out and helped make the Fantasy
Tournament a resounding successs!
Our own Michael Munday walked off with the grand championships after
two hard games and a dragon! Proof that Michael is a truely hard nut
to crack on the battlefield.
Our own Donald Urqhart was generally amazing in his feat of painting
a wood Elf army in three weeks and making it better than many which
have spent years being painted. We all loved the post-Lord of the
Rings theme.
Odyssey 2000 hosts a monthly Warhammer tournament alternating between Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000. - ed.
Odyssey 40K Tourney a success!
reported by Dylan - March 7, 2001
Well, following the successfully-hosted Rogue Trader tournament in October, Odyssey 2000 hosted a home-brewed Warhammer 40,000 tournament on March 3. According to most sources it was a great success. All 18 spots were full, but two registrants did not turn out. This did not impede things as there were plenty of players there willing to step up and fill out matches.
There were three 2-hour game sessions, and each player was scheduled to play in two of them. This format made for a very relaxed pace, allowing for participants to watch other games and chat with each other. During the session in which a player did not have a game, they displayed their army on the paint judging table to be reviewed for quality of painting. Again, this gives all attendees a chance to look at everyone's armies in a leisurely way.
The armies lists were 1000 points, which also helped in keeping the game length comfortably within the allotted time. Armies represented were Chaos Marines, Space Marines, Orks, Imperial Guard and Eldar. In addition to painting and game points, there was a Dreaded Quiz. Questions were from the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook, and they covered a broad range of topics from rules to Imperial history.
First place went to our very own Eric Mason and his Space Ork army (Dofrok Gorefist and the Blood Handz). Best Sportsman award went to Todd Kane playing his well-armed Salamanders army. Prizes were their choice of miniatures from the store.
It was announced that Odyssey 2000 plans to host monthly tournaments; alternating between Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Fantasy Battles. If the first one was any indication, they will be well worth attending.
Webslinger's Out of Business!
reported by Dylan - March 6, 2001
Webslingers was one of the three major game shops in the Metro Halifax area, the other two being Odyssey 2000 and Mirror Universe. They had been in business for a few years, and were located in Halifax Shopping Centre. The exact reason for their closure is not clear, but it seems that there was some tension with the managers of the mall.
