We came, we saw, we kicked some major Space Marine tail.
My Eldar Bahzhakhaine (Swordwind army) performed better than
expected and defeated the Ultramarines army led by Marneus Calgar
(played by Geoff Walker). The end result in the Bunker assault
mission was a major victory for the Eldar who gained 2450 victory
points verses the Space Marines who finished with 1317 victory
points. Even with the extra 600 VP's from destroying four bunkers
(!!!!) the 500 point spread was nice.
Some notable points:
- A devestating preliminary barrage killed 6 members of the scout
squad, before the game even began, virtually eliminating any
resistance on that flank.
- Repeated gambles by missile launcher armed marine Tac squads failed
to destroy any Eldar tanks, severely reducing fire on advancing
infantry. No eldar tanks were lost in the game (though many were
missing weapons).
- Insanely bad support fire from 10 Dark Reapers and two DR exarchs
barely managed to kill a land speeder in one turn.
- Space Marine Vet Squad wiped out a Striking Scorpion squad in one
turn of H2H (23 attacks!) with no losses.
- General slugfest in H2H between Wraithguard and Devestators lasted
for two turns before Terminators and a Dreadnought arrived to clear
the area of Eldar.
- As determined through real life experience... We now know
conclusively that an Eldar Farseer cannot singlehandedly destroy a
Land Raider Crucader. That's what Fire Dragons are for... Eldar
Farseers who stand in front of LRC's should expect to be perforated
by many painful weapons.
- Space Marine Dreadnought should, under no circumstances whatsoever,
ever ever ever go into H2H with an Eldar Avatar willingly. Kicking
and Screaming is best.
- Ditto for Terminators.
- Howling Banshee exarchs are the most annoying type of Exarch ever
developed. Acrobatic kept her out of arms reach of Marneus Calgar for
three turns. Unfortunately double triple lutz sumersaults over
techmarines are stopped very short by servo arms...
- Predatory Annihilators CANNOT kill a wraithlord or Avatar before they
get to it.
Altogether it was really fun. Next time: Grudge match!
