Frequently Asked Questions
"Things you wish you never asked"
  1. Who are you?
    • RogueBattalion is a bunch of wargamers that hang out and do events and other stuff related to the hobby. We started as an informal mailing list of people in Halifax that played Warhammer 40,000 - we used the mailing list primarily as a way to organize games, but things sort of grew and we became a bit more involved in the wargaming community. One day we were sitting around, and one of us said, 'hey wouldn't it be cool if we put on a tournament?' - so we did. It was a lot of fun, and we've continued along those lines. It's a lot of work, and we don't get paid, but we do it anyways.

  2. What are you selling?
    • Nothing. We charge money for some stuff, but we are not a business. We are not out to make a profit, and any money we collect goes to cover the expenses of our activities and events. We are not formally connected to any games retailer or publisher, and we do not sell miniatures or models.

  3. What is a wargame?
    • When we say 'wargames' we mean tabletop miniatures or board games. Our main games of choice at the time of this writing are Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy and Battleground WW2. To list a few other games that we include in our range of interest: Blood Bowl, Necromunda, Battle Fleet Gothic, Epic 40,000, Dungeons & Dragons, Magic the Gathering, Diplomacy... this list is by no means comprehensive.

  4. Are you a GW club?
    • Nope. We have been in contact with GW (Games Workshop) about this, but as they do not seem to be very interested in explaining what benefits we would gain from becoming a GW club, we are not very interested in pursuing the idea.

  5. Do I have to join?
    • Nope. Our events are open to all who are interested. Non-participants do not need to pay. Feel free to come by and watch. We do have to reserve the right to kick you out if it gets too crowded, but that hasn't happened as of yet.

  6. What is WYSIWYG?
    • This stands for What You See Is What You Get. This is a standard for all gaming models that ensures that they are not visually confusing. Miniatures should clearly represent what they are supposed to be in game terms; ie, a model with a sword should not be used as a character with a spear. If you bring an army to a tournament it will be held to this standard - if you have things in your army list that are not represented on your models, they cannot be used.

  7. What is GW?
    • GW is Games Workshop, the publisher of some popular miniatures games such as WH40K (Warhammer 40,000), WFB (Warhammer Fantasy Battle), BB (Blood Bowl), BFG (Battle Fleet Gothic), Epic (Epic 40,000, or Epic Armageddon), Necromunda, Gorkamorka, Inquisitor, Space Hulk, Man o' War, Mighty Empires. Their official line of miniatures is produced by a company called Citadel. While we enjoy this company's products, we are not affiliated with them, and do not use them exclusively.
